Long Reach Clamps

In the past I could have used clamps with deeper reach as usual. So, after seeing the recent video in John Heisz’s channel, I decided to build several based on the older project page.

To hopefully make it strong enough, I increased the size of the wooden parts to 30mm*60mm and used a 14mm rod. This is a bit more compared to the new build video

The original plan was to make 4 clamps but make one additional part just in case. But since all went well I ended up with 5 clamps.

The last picture shows my currently preferred method of making handles: turn a dowel on the lathe and route four shallow dados with a bull nose bit on my slot mortiser

I always find homemade clamps interesting, Just thinking after looking at yours, If one put a piece of ready rod about an inch from the back, one could tighten it and it may stop the joint from breaking, it would then put the joint in compression. will have to make some as I too often need a deeper clamp.

Nice work. Have watched both those videos and plan to build a few for myself.
