I had recovered an old pedestal table from the side of the road a few years back and the top was garbage but I kept the pedestal. So when my son said he needed a coat rack I thought about that pedestal I still had lying around. All I had to do was to make the top portion with coat hooks. The pedestal is made from maple and the beam with the hooks is from beech. It doubles as a key rack with some small brass hooks (not seen in pics). It is stained dark walnut with three coats of water based varethane.
