Well I hurt my back over the summer and because of the issue i have troubling sitting for long periods of time. I decided to built a standing desk for my office. Built from Cherry all drawers are hand cut, which was fun. Finished with mix of 1/3 tung/mineral spirts/poly.

In the shop, as I am designing and working on small items, and as I make rounds at the hospitals, working at charts and dictating I find ways to stand up. The highest smooth surface in the shop is the radial arm saw table. So it becomes my design table, kinda a drafting table, of sorts. But soon I will lower it. I plan to integrate stand up pull out surfaces to work on, in the shop, as I revamp it. I have a back problem also, but I do OK sitting. But standing is quick, gives you more range of motion, and seems more natural. I won’t do a formal desk, of course in the shop, but a few pull out surfaces will happen.

Unusual desk architecture. But I bet it works for you…..............

I wouldn’t have the front lip if I were doing it, but I have different needs. Pretty neat….............love the finish…......

You built a desk WITH a bad back? For the bad back? With and for? That is so like a woodworker. Atta boy.

That’s a nice practical desk. Congratulations.

I’ve been looking for plans for a stand up desk but haven’t had much luck. When I can across this one, I thought that is exactly what I am looking for. Does anybody know where I can get plans for this beauty? Thanks.

Scott—I like your desk, and am looking to build one myself. Do you have plans or can you recommend places to look for plans?

Nice job!
