My stepsister found this YouTube video of this hidden compartment shelf and wanted me to make her one. Can’t find this link at the moment will update if I do.

Anyways, its a very basic build. It looks like a normal shelf, but when you place a magnet on a specific spot on top of the shelf. It unlatches a secret compartment. It works with a child lock thing I bought at Home Depot. When a magnet comes close to this mechanism it unlocks, then your able to pull down the secret compartment . When you remove the magnet and close the secret compartment, it locks again and locks/ functions like a normal shelf.

It’s very creative shelf and a very practical project. Congratulations.

Very useful shelf for that special item. Intriguing project. Nice work.

I like secret compartments. My wife and I used to have a “Present closet” hidden behind a large mirror. The hidden compartment in a shelf is particularly clever because, unlike a desk (where secret compartments might more commonly be found), we usually wouldn’t think there might be something inside.

Here’s your link to the original (at least the first place I saw it). It’s from Grant Thompson. https://youtu.be/1yvZbX_0lPw
