Office suite I made for my new office at work. All in Greene & Greene style. All made with figured Claro Walnut cut and dried by a friend in Davis, CA. He sells a lot of this lumber – it was worth every penny (www.robertbeauchamp.com).
The desk is a blatant rip off of Darrell Peart’s desk (and thanks to him for his help on this – I recommend both his book and his classes). It’s design is very true to the Greene & Greene style from early 20th century. The sideboard is based on a design from an old issue of Fine Woodworking – don’t have all the particulars, but I made a few modifications to turn the central drawers into a large double file drawer and smaller storage drawer. Computer side table is my own design to match the desk and sideboard.
The tops for the 3 pieces are all from the same figured claro log. Think I had about 20 consecutive slices through the log that I bookmatch for each of the tops. The figure in them is outstanding. You can get an idea from the photo showing the desktop.
All the pieces have true Greene & Greene breadboard ends with ebony spline inserts (and about a million ebony plugs – all hand pillowed, sanded and polished – I never want to make another ebony button/plug again!).
