2-Sided Fireplace Screen
Took me 22 years to get around to working on this project. I thought the idea of a “Fireplace Screen” might be of interest to the other members here.
I like to combine various mediums when building a project… but the Members may want to run with this idea and create some stunning screens using only wood?
This project involved: Design, cutting, gluing, painting, printing and finishing… very little sanding for this project.

I found this illustration in a book in 1994…but always put it off due to having much quicker and easier projects to work on. Finally retired and had the time to work on this… happy with the results.
This is a layered frame made from 3 layers of 1/4” maple faced plywood with additional trim from the same plywood.
I couldn’t find any proper hinges that would swing both ways so I installed small brass eyelets and inserted a small dowel rod so that both sides could be displayed properly depending on the season. This also allows me to take each of the four panels off for storage when not in use.
Wood is finished with Satin Lacquer and the Pictures are finished with Gloss Lacquer – both by Watco.
Overall size of this screen is: 26 1/2” tall and 46” wide.

Howard,

That’s a very clever idea . . . and very nicely done!
