Had some scraps kicking around, figured I needed a good mallet and this is what I ended up with.

I added a sketchup of the dimensions. For the wedge, I cut the angles in the maple and they turned out to be to much but it worked out good because I was able to then put the center wedge in to the depth I wanted and then drive 2 more wedges in either side closing the gap.

-- - Jei, Rockford IL - When in doubt, spray it with WD-40 and wrap it with duct tape. The details will attend to themselves.

Great looking mallet, BUT how did you train it to stand up?

My brother was once a jeweler.

As a businessman, though, he failed. He fell in love with his products, and couldn’t bear to part with them.

You really gonna’ hit something with that??? It’s beautiful :-)

Really nice job!

bring that out during the holidays as a nut cracker. That will change the subject in any room…...Nice mallet. What exactly do you plan on hitting with that thing? Hopefully clay, or bread dough!!!!!!

I’d be afraid to put any dents or dings in that thing. You should make a mallet stand to put it on and just stare at.
