This is a Murphy Wall bed completed on 10-01-2007, built using the mission/shaker style. I called it Mission because I normally build this one using oak wood. This particular customer chose to use maple. It looks more shaker to me with the real clean lines and flat panels. They also selected their own hardware and shipped it to us.
Since the doors are non-working, the gap can’t be adjusted using the hinges. To make this piece look as natural as possible, I fit the doors tight and then removed them and cut a small groove around them. This made it appear that there was a perfect gap.
Another feature on this bed is the hidden bookcases. The shelving area is accessed from inside the cabinet, so when the bed is closed nothing is seen. This is the second time I’ve built a hidden bookcase style. The other was the Quarter Sawn Murphy bed.

Chris your creations are outstanding. But it’s not fair to show me a bed at this time of the morning (4:49 a.m.). I’m off in an hour and 10 minutes and guess where I’m heading, yes to bed, it won’t look as good as yours, by my Temperpedic mattress is going to feel great.

this is one of my favourites because of the “drawers”/doors on the front. ha.!!! “surprise”.

I did mess up on this one. I forgot the bookcases completely. I sent the picture to the customer before shipping and they notices the bookcases they ordered where not there. Either that or they were really hidden. I ended up building new verticals (bookcases), crown, and base molding. Here is a picture of the first one.

I have a room that is asking for this solution :) It looks great. What a great idea with the draws and doors.
