Been a while since I built something just for my daughters so this year for Christmas I decided to do shadow/display boxes for their first dance shoes. Something I’m hoping they will keep for years to come. They have been in dance since they were 4 years old and they are now 13 and 10 and they absolutely love it so I thought this would be fitting. One case shows my oldest daughters first ballet and first pointe shoes and the other case shows my youngest daughters first tap shoes.

This is my first attempt at mitered box corners and using splines. I know I need to make a sled for the doing anything like this in the future as tipping the blade to 45 and using the mitre gauge just doesn’t cut it (no pun intended). Will make a jig/sled that will hold the piece @ 45 in reference to the table top and leave the blade at 0.

Materials used included pine, oak, purple heart and birch. Finished with tung oil. They love them and that’s all that counts in the end.

Questions and comments welcome and as usual thanks for looking.

Cheers!

Looks good! I’m sure your daughters think you ROCK!
