Everyone knows what a Happy Meal is: Burger, Fries, and Coke.
As the sole owner of Charles’s Drive-In, I’m pleased to present the classic Happy Meal to anyone who needs a meal, er, laugh:
Quarter Pound(er), Coke and French ….
Youtube video: http://tinyurl.com/y8qtdr5
If you’re interested in the design bits and pieces, scroll down AFTER you watch the vid.
Design tidbits:
Wood: Walnut and oak
The menu reads:
Burger…$1.25
Flries…..$0.50 (note: the letter ‘l’ is crossed out)
Soda..….$0.25
The crank handle is in the shape of a knife; on the other side of the crank, there’s a handle in the shape of a fork.
The quarter ($0.25) is, of course, a Canadian coin. Go Canada Go!
The slogan under the menu is “We do it all for you!” – the one MacDonald’s used back in the 70s.
Charles’s Drive-In, based on my Google search, doesn’t exist; I have no intention of opening one any time soon.
Total project hours: Roughly 6 hours.
Credits: This automaton idea is adapted from a toy (not an-automaton) owned by Bob Phillips of M.O. which I saw at the Kansas City Woodworking Show recently.

Very pretty. I couldn’t expect less from you. A rare-earth magnet involved I believe?
Walnut? I recognize your signature.
Does any one’s up for the challenge of making this one I saw lately on YouTube? (please, full screen)
Best,
Serge

Serge, I wouldn’t even touch that with a 10-foot pole!
But I do plan to make this ‘Automata Maker:’

Magnets? That’s a spoiler. Haha.

Good morning (?) Wanda,
My carving skill is not good at all and I’d rather not risk ruining your look … my design has a woodturner there and the name of my piece will be “You turn, I turn.”

EEK, I’ve spent to long on lumberjocks and I’m not even a jock. I need to write a CV before bed time and it’d 11pm. I don’t carve, tis all sanded on my axminster mini belt and disk sander. glue, sand, cut, glue, sand a bit more!
Bye, speak soon, W
