Grasshopper in a hurry

Happy Holidays to all! When I first saw the Grasshopper pull toy on the Marc’s Wood Whisperer site I knew I had to build it for my Grandson and a few others. I think the antennas and the eyes did it for me. The only problem I had was time. It was only a few days before Christmas. Thank goodness for speedy shipping!

I built the body from maple and the legs qs oak. My wife remembered we had a tube of Minwax Color Express in Emerald Green left over from another project. Since it was a stain, it still left the body looking like wood. It needed to be sanded because the product was water-based and it raised the grain a bit. The second coat laid flat. I used wax and lightly sanded all of the moving parts and finished with a few coats of wipe-on poly. The wheels and axle pegs were delivered in just in time.

It was a really fun build and the watching my grandson pull it around the house was priceless.

Thanks for looking and thank you Marc, and all LJ’s for posting such inspirational projects!
I wish eveyone a Happy and healthy New Year. AJ

Great simple project!!! but once you start to make more, things can get complicated in a hurry.
