GOW 2007 class projects

Project by Cathy Krumrei posted 787 days ago 304 views 0 times favorited 7 comments Add to Favorites Watch

While at the GOW 2007 one of my classes was this chair from Jan Oegema. We really had fun carving this out. Most had faces on them and I chose to do this humming bird pattern for my deck. I free handed the pattern and just went for it! Also Tony Ericksons class on a hummingbird feeder. Really a neat idea and fun to carve.

Nice carving Krum. Wish I could carve like that, but the drawing part has me handicapped :-))

Thanks! I can’t draw, I just pencil in things as a guide. Then just start taking wood away. Really…I can’t draw.
Once I have something to guide me, I then try to carve what is in my mind. That could be spooky huh??? *BG
It will look nice in the yard next year along with the arbor. Now I am working on the kitchen utinsels. Had a scoop that is working out nice for the inside of the spoon. I’m happy with them now.

What is the GOW? I’m thinking “grand old whittlers”..That is a lot of whittling on that chair, nice job.

The GOW-Gathering of Woodcarvers. Had been started in 1999 the name started as the GPO for Great Pig Out then changed to GOW. Joe & Sharon Dillett from Somanulk Ill. is the hosts of the event. You can read more and maybe join us next year providing a new place is found for us all. We had 127 carvers this year. (what a blast!) Read more and see some pics at this link.

I learn so much and get to know people that I have talked to online and made new friends during this event.
Thanks all for the comments!
