Made a Xmas present for the Mrs.

Stared on this project almost two months ago, only can work on it a few minutes here and there…
I have learned several new curse words in the process lol, but it was a fun project.

Im new to woodworking, I have actually spent more time restoring old machines, but finally have enough of them up and running to start building stuff.

So this started as a couple of “scrap” pieces of black walnut i picked up few months ago, a maple board and some aromatic cedar for the bottom. Its ready for a small shelf box, but that was not accomplished due to lack of time. The original design had wood hinges, but that was a horrible failure too, so once again not having time to try again, had to go with metal.

After all said and done i’m happy with the results, and if i ever attempt another box i sure do know how NOT to do some things.

Fine job. I can see you have a feeling for the wood.

Consider filling the voids in your lid with resin mixed with black powder or turquoise grains.

That’s a fine looking box—I’m sure your wife loves it!

And experience is the best teacher. Your boxes will get better and better as you build them, so have fun in the process!
