My friends John and Gem bought a new couch and wanted some end tables of a particular design. Gem has had a six board chest behind the old couch for years, and so they wanted end tables of the same construction. John wanted to do the final assembly and finishing himself (we’ve collaborated on projects before.) I built a pair of the tables and John collected them un-assembled and un-finished.

(Have you ever noticed that the sentence “it’s finished except for the finish.” makes sense only to a woodworker?)

All the wood is red oak. Hardware is brass. Both halves of the tops open, and the trays slide forward and back

The first two pictures are John’s showing the finish and hardware. The next two are mine showing the construction. (Mentally PhotoShop out the clamps, please.)
