Chili spoon

Been kind of uninspired lately. In my shop, but mostly reading, cleaning up, messing around. I was burning some scrap pieces to thin out the mess, when I almost threw this piece, I’d been saving for some time, in the fire.
I got to thinking, if I was inspired, what would I do with it. It was a nice size for a spoon. So spoon it was.
Still, just a spoon wont do. LJ’s would be bored. Me too.
Went an easy route, continuing the chili theme,( love the Chili!).
Turned out pretty good, has a good feel. Have not tried it yet. I’ll edit later. The natural feel for it now is to grab the chili pepper in your fist and kind of use it like a shovel.
It’s about 9 inches long, I believe it’s plum wood. I finished with the butcher block oil.
That’s about it, Thanks, ...Jack…......................

Very nice spoon Jack. Love the chili pepper & that plum wood looks almost like mahogany.

The shape of the handle and the bowl part are great. Really makes me think of eating chili.

looks cool … If I made a spoon that nice with a chili on it like that, there is no way I could resist painting the pepper gloss red.

Great looking spoon! I hope you don’t allow drinking around that spoon while in use? One too many beers and someone might just chew that chili pepper off the end of that spoon. Congratulations on another great carving. Keep on keeping on.

Thanks you guys!!

DaN, I thought about that but I’m out of paints and stains and don’t really want to spend the money on one little project like this. Decided to leave natural and inexpensive. Maybe more later? Never know…................

I like this spoon a lot. The pepper idea is a good one and fits in the ‘kitchen’ just right. I also like the ‘scoop’ look to the spoon bowl. I’ve worked purple plum before and find that it finishes very smooth. Looks like you were inspired without knowing it.

Very cool. I’m unusually fascinated by kitchen utensils. I like that yours looks like it conforms to your hand. Nice.
