Natural Edge Cross

This is the last of the Christmas gifts. I just had to assemble it and finish it.
It is a natural edge Box Elder cross backed up to a piece of Cholla cactus skeleton and mounted on a base of Mesquite. The cross is doweled into the base and the cactus has a solid mesquite disc on the inside at the bottom for a full glue surface to the base.

I was going to use full natural edge on the mesquite but the sap wood was full of bug holes and it was too big ( out of proportion to the cactus ), so I turned it all off and saved just a small amount for the front.

It is 13” high and the base is 5 1/2” diameter and finished with satin lacquer.

Merry Christmas….................Cheers, Jim

As usual Jim, your creativity and workmanship are stellar.
I really did not get much use out of the nut cracker I bought from you this year…lousy pecan crop, 3rd year in a row.

Merry Christmas,

John

Whoever gets this will love it. Very unique Jim. Looks like it’s flying down from heaven. Well done.
If you look at it sideways (head turn to right) it looks like a alligator. Cool!

Nice work Jim! I agree with Dave that if you look at it like his says you can see an alligator!
Merry Christmas!

Thanks you all for the nice comments!!
Hi Dave, you have the eye for things. I does look like a gator pointed upward!! That cactus is real fragile and if broken it could look like something altogether different!!

Hi Bruce. I wanted to use Pistachio for the base but I’m all out. We’ll have to visit John Goodwin at the saw mill to stock up!!

Merry Christmas to you all and your family!!

Cheers, Jim

That Cholla cactus skeleton (I think that what you called it) is one of the coolest things I have seen. Super cool project.

I was surprised when I read the dimensions. In the images it looks much smaller! Easy to see why your daughter loves it. Thanks for sharing.
