SANTA'S SLIPPER!

In November I taught a boot carving course at Lee Valley. After cutting out some blanks for the boots I had some cut-offs that were too good to throw away into the dust bin. One piece in particular raised my interest and the resulting boot became Santa’s Slipper.
It was an end piece from my Mayday log, and being the end piece it had some severe splitting, visible in picture 3. Not to be discouraged I cut the blank separating the sole, vamp and toe-cap. My cyano-acryllic glue was close at hand. I deliberately cut the sole piece a little thicker hoping for more stability. In the end the carving worked out as shown.

Now the story….....

I have been a good boy all year Santa but here is a present for you when you visit our house on Sunday. After your long night on the road you will find it nice to sit in front of a warm fire, sipping on a nice warm drink and a nice cozy slipper to get into. Hope you had a good night.

Santa, this boot is for you!

Splitting? You mean the sipeing for ice traction!

He needs 2.

Neat better than a stocking under that tree.

He will appreciate it, even if he has to wait till next year to get the other one. You did a nice job with the cracked wood, it makes me think you are running out of wood and need me to bring you a truck load. Very attractive boot. The rest of the block that I made mine out of I made into a box for a person in the hospital. MERRY CHRISTMAS

Nice gift for the man in red!
Did I ever mention that when I lived in Germany, many many years ago, I wore wooded shoes?
Mine were small, for an 6 year old, but the landlord’s wooden shoes were so large that mine fit inside!
