Walnut Serving Tray w/vintage yard sticks

I have been buying up old yard sticks when I can find them reasonably priced in the hopes of making something out of them one day. The idea of a serving tray came to mind and to also use some of that 2 part epoxy resin like for bar tops. Never tried that before. So this was the end result. The yard sticks were glues to some 1/4 ply. The epoxy pour was easier than expected and using a propane torch for removing the air bubbles worked great. The tray is 12” x 17”. I guessed and didn’t calculate for the amount required to cover the base so I ended up doing a second pour a few days after to completely cover the bottom. I wasn’t sure if that would work but it turned out just fine. One thing I’d do differently is either pour the bottom outside the frame and seal the joints between each stick better. The reason for the second pour was due to the gaps and loosing some of the 2 part in between those joints.

Thanks for looking.

WOW! Great and unique idea, looks awesome! Today with more plasti sticks in use this looks kind of rustic too.

That’s a great looking serving tray! I’ve never seen one with yardsticks before!

Love the yard sticks idea. Time to add them to the list for flea markets. Now if I had all the yard sticks that were broken in my younger days.. well I could build a bunch of trays..

Very unique! It all works so well together!

Trays present the opportunity to showcase some neat designs for the base. Yours really “measures up”.
