Hollow turning Christmas present

This is a hollow turning I made for a buddies mom. Stands 10.5” x 8” dia. The body is Cherry and the finial and base are Maple with Cherry accents.

Beautiful shape and finish. I’m to impressed with thin black turning part – I wonder how it doesn’t broke during turning.

Ivan. The finials are hard Maple. It’s quite a hard wood. Small sharp tools. Lots of info on youtube about turning finials.
