A rather strange retirement gift...

Project by Gord Graff posted 785 days ago 845 views 0 times favorited 7 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Howdy,

Although I’ve worked as a woodworker in traditional design for many years, I now find my designs have taken a turn, as this retirement clock for a friend shows.

The aluminium base is made from the off-cut of a machine shop’s plasma cutter and measures a full 1” thick X 15” long X 6” tall. The wenge clock face was cut from a 12”X12” blank and is suspended above the aluminium base by two 3/8” aluminium rods.

The whole piece measures 15” wide X 19” tall…………………………strange that you would give a guy a clock for his retirement when his life now isn’t governed by one.

All the best
Gord

ah hah!! beyond the wood
nice multi-media piece of art!

hmm a clock does seem strange – I guess it’s to say “think of us” (who still need the clock)

Great piece. but more on time

Retirement is becoming a second life for many and time (or the tracking of it – 86 days to Christmas for instance) helps keep it in front of my mind. And mind you do not waste it. “Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day” no need to race now it will come up behind you again. Trying to make each day less dull sometimes is a challenge, Projects are the way .

beautiful design…i love the base…the second picture is amazing…also in the 3rd picture the wood grain shows nicely which I could not see in the other 2 picts…

as far as time…how about 29 school days completed with 151 to go??? My time is measured in minutes until the bell…and days until JUNE…

Gord, I’m retiring in about 23 months – just in case you want to get started a little early. Also, your friend wasn’t Superman was he? :-))

Gord a very nice design. A clock without numbers is better after you retire.

Pritty cool Gord, My gift was a clock with the Min. hand removed. They said I did not need to watch the mins any longer. I see the point now!
Happy wodworking
