I made this for my son who will be turning 2 in March. The dimensions are based on the anarchist tool chest plans. It’s all white pine, very light. Dovetailed the carcass, mitered the skirt, shiplapped the bottom, and breadboarded the top. Torsion hinges for the mechanical. Paint is NYPD blue, picked out by the wife. This thing is pretty large – it’s big enough for all his toys and then some. Dovetailing this soft/squishy pine is quite easy.

Nice chest. Simple, well made, elegant and gets the job done. A little care and it should last a lifetime. Thanks for sharing.

Nice looking toy box! I am almost done with a toy box for my granddaughter. I love the torsion hinges. Did you get yours from Rockler? What are the dimensions of the box?

Looks great! I might have to “borrow” your idea! :)

You and your son will appreciate this for a very long time!

Matty – I believe the dimensions are 40” long, 20” wide, and 22” tall. It’s very big, which is what I wanted. I got the hinges from Rockler. I got the 40lb hinges based on the calculator on the website, but they’re not strong enough so I’m sending them back for the 60lb. If you’re nervous about the lid slamming, I’d err on the side of too much (i.e. 60lb).

Sometimes coloured looks better – nice grey colour.
