Hippopatamus for Christmas

I was using scrap hardwood up, making a bottle openers for a future sale. I found that one I had accidentally just cut to a usable shaped had a strong resemblance to a hippo. Without any input , I asked 3 other people what the shape looked like—all said hippo.

I then decided to make a template and tweak it a little more.

You see the result. Unknown wood species, but quite hard, about 1/2 inch by 5 by 1-1/2.

I drilled an eye in and the hole for the convenience loop, as I made the template at the same time I cut it out.

I will make some more up and when I hear someone singing the title song they are going to ge their Hippo for Christmas!

Did not make pattern, just cut the template from my mock-up.

That does look like a Hippo ralbuck! A scroll saw is a tool I haven’t tried yet.

It will be some fine decoration. Animals are very good theme for ornaments.

A thirsty hippo is a friend to have. Cool opener.

...”only a hippopotamus will do…” Adorable – you have captured the kids who love hippos, the adults who love bottle openers, the nature lovers – and with a little paint or stain they can be personalized – Brilliant!

Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas!

Well I tried my scanner and could not get it to cooperate; so hope the insert helps. Anyone is welcome to it.

Hope you have a blast with the tree ornament that leads a secret life! Actually 2 different templates.
