Protector/Holster for Incra Rule

I acquired a new Incra Rule to upgrade the accuracy of my measurements.

To get the accuracy, though, the rule is very thin, and vulnerable to bending.

I reached in the scrap bin and put a few pieces together to make a holster to carry on my belt. I used CA on all the wood AND the webbed loop to save time.

About the only addition I might make is to add a rubber band or something like that to hold the rule in, though it will be tough to tip it out.

I’ve been looking at getting one of these but haven’t decided on size yet. Cool holder.

I am going to have to get me one of those rulers, and subsequently, make a sweet case like yours.

Just picked one up at a garage sale, today. Looking forward to working with it :-)

I just checked online, and there is a “professional” version that also has measurements in hundredths.

Great idea to protect that little goody ;-)

I have the 18 inch set. This set has all 3 the flat, the t-square, and the bent one. I like all three. I really like the bent one makes it easy to transfer measurements along the edge of a board and get it straight the first time.

I have 2 and worry about them because they are so thin. Your idea is a great one! I think I’ll make one and attach it under a shelf to keep them safe.
Thanks!

Nice design on your rule holster and a great idea!

Wish that I had seen this sooner – I dropped my 6” T-Rule the other day and bent a corner. A pair of needle-nose pliers flattened the bend and ‘fixed’ it but the damage is still noticeable. I have the 6” T-Rule and the 6” regular rule: use both of them all of the time and they are probably the best tools one can acquire to improve their accuracy.

I have the 6” T-ruler as well and think it a good tool. My issue with it is I continually break off the lead in use. Any tips to cure that (besides “don’t press so hard”)?
I’m going to have to make one of these holders for my marking gauge tool bag to keep it in good shape.
Thanks for the idea and sharing it with us!

I have the 6” as well and really like it. It sure makes measures a lot easier and a lot more accurate. I’ve been wondering what to do to protect it. Now I know! Thanks

Ratchet – what about a sharpened automatic pencil made for drafting. I think mine is 2.0mm instead of the typical 0.5mm. I can make some pretty fine lines (especially compared to a carpenter’s pencil) and the lead is much more resistant to breaking.

those are great rules, i have the 6” and 12” and yes i need to make a hard-sleeve too good idea. i keep them now in a plastic protractor sleeve on a peg-hook.

i think my next will be the compass and bent/corner ones.
