Eight sectioned curly maple rattle. Each section was dyed a different color. Rattle is filled with BBs, springs were attached in each end so rattle rings when shaken. Rattle was a gift for my infant nephew.

That is really nice work, I love the segmented glue-up and great colors. Did you carve the lines by hand to make the final texture?

That is cool. It’s like a double barrel rattle. That will be a conversation piece 20 years from now.

Nice rattle, can’t imagine how it rings though. Is that spring loose or secured inside?

This rattle turned out beautifully.

Thanks, all. The lines were carved with a dremel, the edges of the grooves were then rounded over with sanding sticks and sandpaper. The springs are not loose, I carved a slot for the base of each spring and glued them in with epoxy.

Looks good—- like the colors

Ok—I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed—- But what’s the purpose of the spring?

9×9, the springs ring as the BBs inside bang against them as the rattle is shaken.
