Project Information

We're working on a series of tables using interesting wide board tops combined with steel bases made by my older son Sam in our metal shop… We finished two this week plus the wide board mahogany table that I posted here a couple of weeks ago … The wood on that one (a 40" wide piece of mahogany) is amazing. More and bigger photos and descriptions on my dorset custom furniture blog.. We'll also be adding a few walnut chairs to the mix when we make a set of 10 this week for a paying customer …

Wow! I love both your project, and the serious thought that went into it. Having a multi-generational project under your collective belts is an added plus!

Very well done and thoughtful design too. While I do appreciate the quality and uniqueness, the steel leg idea is not quite my thing as I am perhaps too bound to tradition. However, my son who is an art director in an ad agency would love this design as he has a large modern dining table with steel legs and chairs to match.

I like the modern touch with the steel legs. It would look excellent in an urban loft setting, I think.

And that is definitely some pretty wood, to say the least. Nice layout!

Will the chairs have steel legs too, or is that completely seperate project that will be composed entirely of wood?

You certainly have some beautiful boards to work with there. I wish I had the same resources. Not a fan of the legs, though. I would have liked to see those wide boards sitting on some legs or a base that are as beautiful and compliments the top. I guess metal legs on tables remind me too much of institutionalized furniture you wood find in an office or a school.

Just one guys opinion. As they say, "to each his own".
