Scraps from a Cabinet Shop dumpster dive some of my projects come from. Maple for the main part and Oak for the handle. This mallet is for my dads birthday although it will be a little late. I am making another for myself. Finish is Boiled Linseed Oil.

I hope that you didn’t tell him, that the wood came from a dumpster. I would say, It came from a temporary holding facility, that processes outsourced materials for final handling. (that’s what our president would say)
or you could just tell him, “it was some wood that you saved for you” either way, he should really like the mallet.

Joe,

I was looking for mallets when I ran into yours here. This is a late comment and I really haven’t commented on the others I’ve seen so far. I could not help myself as a fellow dumpster diver, had to say, ¬°Great Job!

PS, local CM millcreek moved theirs out of my reach, dangit!

my dad has gotten a lot of use out of that mallet.

yeah only reason i was able to get the scraps was because at the time my brother was working for the company that hauled the dumpster away. he asked his boss if he could set it at his house for a couple of days for me to pick through. im still using the wood i wound up getting so much of it. im also buying from the cut off bin at home depot to make stuff with. aside from that bin i haven’t paid for wood in over 3 years.
