I made this box out of Tasmanian Blackwood, with a Sheoak panel in the lid. It has, what I think is, a Yellow Carrabean base. I’m not sure of the species because it was reclaimed from a drawer from some old furniture I knocked down.

I made the box using a Gifkins dovetail jig. Beaut bit of gear and easy to use. My mum liked it though the LOML kept referring to it as a pencil case – and she said she didn’t have any pencils to put in it. It’s too big for a pencil case!!

Lovely box Claire.

It’s rather unusual to see sliding lid boxes and it’s refreshing for a change.

Well designed and executed. I like the design of the sliding lid, looks like there was some thought in it.

Claire, you certainly don’t seem to be “just starting out” as your profile states. This is a beautiful box!

Claire, this is a beautiful small wooden box; I just love small wooden boxes!

Sometimes we go overboard trying to enhance a simple box and in so doing, we detract from the core beauty inherent in this art form. Your box makes a simple statement – “less is more”.

Nice work.

thanks everyone

I can’t claim to have designed it. Its one of Roger Gifkins’s designs.

Charlie M – thanks for the encouragement – I just don’t post my disasters!

Don – I’ve been looking at your boxes on various forums – very inspirational!

-- cheers, Claire (in Oz!)
