I built these cabinets under my lathe. I found the basic design from pictures I found on google. There is an opening under the cabinets that is used to house the ballast (100lbs. sand). The three cabinets are screwed to the base. They are made with 3/4” ply. The drawers are made with 1/2” Baltic birch ply with 3/4” ply fronts. the front edging and handles are made from cherry scraps. Spray finished very quickly with left over water based SW Kem Aqua Plus.

Nice cabinet, Gregg. I have that same lathe and I love it. What is the opening in the center for with the round holes in it?

Cheers, Jim

Thanks Jim. The center cabinet is for storing the tail stock when needed.

Nice stand. There are a lot of nice details included in the design.

This is a great lathe accessory and tool cabinet. It’s also a nice space saver since it takes up space that is otherwise wasted and is a very practical addition to your shop.

Great idea for otherwise underused space.
