My, my, my. I was thinking about building at least a storage solution for the glass plates and abrasives. Your timing is impeccable.

Tom, I’d love to read a review on this unit from you. I was within an inch of buying one this weekend at our local tool show. I decided against it in favor better of bettering my skills with traditional methods first. All told, I could have gotten out for about the same price after buying the supplies I opted to get (stones, etc.).

Wayne, I know you and Tom (mot) were going back and forth discussing the WorkSharp vs. the Veritas. Did you do an actual writeup that I missed. Thanks in advance for any input you guys provide.

Wayne, I haven’t tried the see-through yet. I just do things on the top like I always have. You’re free-handing anyway so why not on top.

Was responding while Tom A posted. Tom (Mot) did a review of the Veritas Sharpening system. It was the leader in the Fine Woodworking Tool guide that just came out, but costs about $200 more than the worksharp. I would love to hear your opinion on the Worksharp Tom A.

Looks like a good place to keep the whatcha callits and so forth to keep the thingy’s around the shop sharp.

That looks like a great setup, Tom. I really need to get me one of those, but I’m still trying to figure out how to make sharpening the tools as much fun as using them.

Wait a minute, your supposed to sharpen these tools?

I use a tormek, water stones, diamond paste on MDF, and a poplar block turning on the lathe, treated with jewelers rouge. Or the scary sharp system.

I use the feel method to determine which method I’ll use for what tool.

It all depends on what I feel like.

I really don’t have a favorite way of doing it, and do like having a choice.

I’ve got diamond stone, Arkansas. a hard wheel on a grinder with green paste. jeweler’s rouge on my strop and this thing. I’ve even got a scythe stone somewhere. I’ve probably still got my sharpener to do mower knives. And the danged stuff is still always dull! Dang!! ain’t this fun?

It’s sure a coincidence. I turned on my TV early yesterday morning, & they were running a sales pitch for work sharp. It looks like a great tool. I’ll have to put it on my list.

Kinda looks a little elaborate to me…that is not an insult, just an observation. I like gadgets and doo-dads,maybe too much. Part of the fun of having a shop is “shop projects”, making jigs and fixtures just for the sake of it. Daren, the purpose of the work station was to keep the parts and pieces corraled and not lost. You’re right, sharpening isn’t that hard. But sometimes finding the tools to do it is.

“But sometimes finding the tools to do it is.” You said a mouthful. I have had problems on both ends at times…when I find my oil stone I forgot where I laid the chisel I was going to sharpen.
