Just finished this gate project and now waiting on the weather to improve so I can install it at a new garden entrance at home. The frame is 2X cedar, joined with pegged mortise & tenons. I made the inset panel from several cypress 3/4” boards. The cutout is trimmed with cedar. Finish is marine varnish over an oil base cedar stain.

Very spiffy!

Did you ship-lap or tongue-n-groove the inner panels? How much movement did you decide to allow for in the side dados?

I ask because one I did surprised me with the amount of shrinkage that I got. I plan on a moisture meter to deal better in the future with shrinkage.

The gate looks great. It looks better than the doors I have in my house…:-) Very nice job.

The inner panels are T&G. I allowed about 1/4” in the dados on each side for expansion.
