I decided to build a picnic table as a surprise for some friends last October. I partially assembled it at home then transported it to their house to finish the assembly. By the time I got it assembled it was too late to put the finish on so I decided to come back the next weekend to stain and seal it. Between the 2 of them, they have 10 children and they liked the table so well and since it’s larger than their dining table they decided to move it in the house and use as a dining table. This is the only pic I have of it currently, hopefully when good weather returns this spring and I can move it back outside to apply the finish I’ll get better pics. By the way, ignore the time/date stamp on photo, its incorrect and I can’t remember how to change it on camera.

Well, what a nice surprise THIS must have been! 10 kids between them huh? Wow, I can’t imagine….Keith and I have only 3 between the two of us, but sometimes it feels more like 10…hahaha! I can see why they moved it inside to use all the time…they need all of that extra room for times when they all sit down to eat together. What a nice friend to give them the ability to do so comfortably : )

I had a friend as a kid who had a large family and they used a picnic table indoors. I always thought it was cool.

Nice build, it should serve them well.

Very nice bench. Different style to most. I like that.

Thanks for your comments. I’m sorry, I guess I really didn’t give much detail about the table and benches. The table is 8’ long by 32” wide. Rather than attached benches, I made 4 46”X17” benches, based on a design for a simple garden bench that I modified for my purposes. I used treated 4X4 lumber for the legs on table and benches, untreated 2X4’s for the table top and untreated 1X4’s for everything else. Originally my thoughts were that they could use the benches for seating at the table, and could also move them around the yard or around their fire pit when needed. Since they moved the table inside, this has worked really well for them since moving these 4’ benches for sweeping and cleaning is a lot easier than 1 long 8’ bench on both sides would have been. Thanks again for looking and for your comments.
