Hi All,
I am just getting started in this hobby again and my projects will include furniture as well as more construction-type stuff like a chicken house. So I wanted a couple of quick benches to start getting stuff done. Sure, I would love a 400 lb. French bench…but I need to get some projects done to impress my wife…and she wants a chicken house. So this is my knockdown bench. The top sits on rails and can be swapped out for tool stands or just to use it like saw horses. The total materials were 1 sheet of 3/4” plywood and 2 2×4s. Total material cost was under $50 and I can take it apart and put it wherever I am building the chicken house. I also replaced that table saw.

On the shop side of the garage, I have about 400 square feet, which is more than a lot of people have to work with. With the second bench I have some horizontal surface to work with now and some portable stuff. It is a good start and I like building a bench as much as building anything else, so I don’t mind working hard on shop set up.

Nice job. It looks like Norm’s portable chopsaw stand. I believe you got inspired by his design?

Well done.

Best,

Serge

Ya know, I don’t know if I had seen Norm’s stand. I found the plans in an internet library of plans collected from the various magazines. I suspect that the guy who made the plan had seen Norm’s bench though.

Have your say...
