I can’t seem to keep my mind away from our little cabin at the lake.

For years our snack bar had a Douglas fir plywood top, with a fiberglass resin finish. What made me decide to change the counter top was because I had made these new stools, & they made the old counter top look shabbier than it actually was. The edging on the counter is Black ash. It’s makes a nice contrast with the green tile.

The stools are made from some old kitchen chairs that swiveled, & had padded Red Naugahyde upholstery. The first thing I did was to weld a 6” extension to the posts. then I bent, & welded on 1/2’ rods for backrest supports.

Being that I love mixing different species of wood I proceeded with the rest of the process of putting together the seats, & backrests. I spent quite a bit of time deciding on how to build the footrests, & finally came up with the design shown. The mitered corners are splined to add strength.

The finish is a satin polyurethane

They also are great stools for our musician sons’.

Your chairs and counter top are well matched. I like how your mixing of different species of wood makes the chairs stand out. You’ve done a fine job of matching everything. A cabin on the lake…that sounds relaxing!

Dick, the more I see of your place, the more I would like a tour. How about giving us a pictorial tour that includes some of the things you’ve made over the years.

You are fortunate to have both wood and metal crafting skills. I’ve always been intrigued by the combining of those two media.

The stools are lovely.

Hi Teach,
I should have warned you that Lumberjocks is very addictive. ;0)

Debbie,
We can hardly wait for the snow to melt, so we can get back out there.

AH! Yes the view.

Image taken from our front deck.
I just stitched two images together. A new thing that came with my camera.

Not the greatest job, poor overlapping, but it looks pretty good.
