This is really My first decorative box. I have made cigar humidor boxes before, but they were square and pretty simple design. This box took a little more time and effort. Its made from cherry with a maple inlay. I went to a mill to buy a cherry log milled to 6” x 12” x 10’ (foot) for a customer project. I was hired to make a custom mantle for a fire place. Well I had just enough of a cut off left to make this box All of the cutting was done on the band saw. I sprayed on a catalyzed lacquer to finish the box. The Idea came from a similar project that was done on “The American Wood shop”. I’m sure my wife is going to love it.

It was great to see this. I cut out a similar box a few days ago, but the cherry may have been too wet. I left it in my cold shop and have been afraid to chek on it. If it is in good shape tomorrow, I will try the inlay idea. Your box looks great. My wife would love it!

Bob, this is a gorgeous box. I have wanted to do one of these as well after watching Scott Phillips but just have not got around to it. Your version of the box looks really good and I particularily like your wood choice. Maple and cherry are my favorite combination.

Excellent work and a great idea. I wonder if I can make one by Valentines Day.
