More spoons!

Really enjoying spoon carving lately! I’m trying to get a few made to give away as Christmas presents this year, so here are the latest two! First one is a walnut coffee scoop finished with spray on shellac. Toned down the shinyness of the shellac a bit by buffing with some steel wool per a recommendation from someone in the finishing section of the forum.

Second spoon is another in pear! Really love the color and texture of the pear wood for spoons – it is very fine grained and stays nice and smooth, even after wetting. This one was tricky – the branch it was carved from had been dead in the tree for quite a while, and so had some streaks of punky/dry rotted wood. Spoon ended up a little shorter, and the bowl a bit shallower than I intended as a result. Still really like it though! Since it is meant to be a cooking spoon it is finished in a beeswax/mineral oil blend that I made.
