It’s amazing what happens to a tree during it’s life. The box is a birthday gift for our daughter-in-law, which she loved.
A 1.5”X16”X38” unique piece of curly maple was given to me by a woodworking buddy who found it in a scrap pile at a saw mill. After resawing it into .75” usable slabs and then planed to .5”, this is the results. The maple is outlined with padauk, at least I think it is (gotten from same buddy). Side note, my shop will never be the same after working with the red wood. I applied 3 coats of water base poly and several applications of wax.
Plans were from Woodstore .net.

That is some amazing wood! Made for a beautiful jewelry box. I bet she really did love it. That wood was found in a scrap pile? Shame the rest is in a pallet somewhere.

What a beauty! That sure looks like padauk! I use it a LOT and my shop looks like a cayenne pepper accident!

Very nice. Be advised – If this is padauk it will go dark in a few years.
