I’ve become very interested in shop made tools…I love the idea of being able to make something that performs great and looks great.

This mallet is 10.5” in total length. The head is about 1.75” x 3.5” x 2.25” thick. The dimensions were entirely based on the size of the scraps I had available from some previous projects.

The Bloodwood head (with Cherry pins) is made of 3 pieces of 3/4” laminated together with a mahogany handle. The finish if just BLO.

The mallet has really good balance and I’d say the weight is just about right for its intended use. I could not decide if I wanted a square face on the head or not, so I cut one face square and cut the other at 5 degrees.Still haven’t decided which I like better.

Sorry for the horrible pictures. The head is actually blood red in person.

I agree great mallet, never gotten to use blood wood, not really familiar with it at all actually. Guess I’ll have to do some research!

I have been getting more interested in shop made hand tools myself lately, near obsessed with it actually, not just from scratch but modifying what I have to look and work better. Well made tools inspire you to work better I think, good tools deserve to turn out quality projects, and that makes you work harder to live up to them.

Anyhow good job buddy and enjoy making more tools in the future, I know I have.

I just made a mallet myself…I wish I had your choice of wood.
