The 3/8” chisel is my go-to dovetail chisel, but the bench chisel is too long for repetitive chopping (top heavy). My dream dovetail chisel is the Veritas 3/8” PMV-V11 butt chisel: http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=70931&cat=1,41504

An alternative is the Lee Valley butt chisel: http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=30029&cat=1,41504 . Plastic handles are never my favorite choice.

The more affordable solution? Turn a wooden handle and replace the plastic handle.

By the way, I did a similar thing (i.e. modification) to my new Lee Valley double square (http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=72730&cat=1,42936,42941). I use the small double square as a dovetail square to check squareness:

The $140 US alternative is the fancy Vesper double square:
