My 2-year-old adores playing in the shop with me, so I conceived this mallet project as something he could help with.
Construction is very straight-forward – I saw the technique on LJs, so thanks to whoever that was! The second picture pretty much says it all, though the thicker handle on the oak mallet made that slightly more complicated.
His mallet is pine, and mine is oak. All edges are chamfered 45 degrees.
We finished with walnut oil.

Excellent project! In years to come your son will smile when he recalls working with Dad on a project.
