I have been carving and playing Native American flutes for some time now. this one I carve from a salvaged piece of Douglas fir while I was recovering from back surgery. I like carving different bird heads on the ends of my flutes, but the eagle seems to be everyone favorite. I use cedar and walnut sometime to make flutes, but for the sound Douglas fir is still my favorite wood to use.

Thanks everyone, these have always been some of my favorite projects to make, I think of them more as mental health therapy project, than I do woodworking. Later this fall I will making a run of these that I plan on turning on the lathe, this will be the first time I have tried that, I have seen a lot of other flute makers turn theirs, but I have never had to opportunity to try.

Overall, a beautiful piece. I think you got the eyes perfectly – they seem to almost be alive.
