I’ve posted this project in another woodworking forum, but I’m kind of obsessed with it right now, so I’m posting it here too! I have recently started carving spoons, and made this one from a branch off of a pear tree. The branch had a curve in it to start with, plus I had to cut around a big eaten area. I think it ended up cool! I love the pear wood – so much interesting grain and color variations.

In person it has areas of tan, red, pink, and grey/brown. Also the wood came out incredibly smooth, even after wetting it! It’s just a treat to handle and look at. I hope to make another spoon or two from the rest of the pear branches I have.

Great job! Adding to my collection of favorites. I have heard that pear wood has a smooth finish, but never had the opportunity to work with any. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for including the bananas. Without them I would never have known the size of the Spoon!
