Finished Drivers from Screwdriver Group Purchase

I finally put some handles on the screwdriver shanks I got as part of the Grace USA group purchase. The handle shapes are loosely based on the tool handles from the Studley tool chest. I used ferrules from Lee Valley instead of the ones that came with the set.

This was a fun project. I realized that it has been a long time since I’ve turned any small spindles and I’m pretty rusty. I was experimenting a bit on the first few so you can see that there are a few that have different numbers of grooves etc. I though of going back and redoing those, but I kind of like the variation.

The woods are she oak (robertson), lacewood (phillips) and wedge (slotted).

Many thanks to Hokieken for setting this up.

Dennis

Thanks Bruce.

By the way the slotted driver handles are wenge, not wedge. I hate auto correct.

Good-lookin’ handles Dennis! You’re way ahead of me, I’ll be lucky to get mine handled before next summer :-/ That Wenge looks great against the black shanks. I’ll have to keep that in mind…

I really like those. The different woods for different drivers is a great idea.

I’ve been trying to finish off some other projects so I can get to mine, but those look really good! Might have to bump them up the que.

Any chance you can share the rough dimensions of them? The handles look good proportionally to the shanks which is a part I’ve been struggling with.

The biggest handles were 1 5/8” at the thickest point and 5” long.
