Walnut Bed Frame

So, my sister came to me asking if I would make them a wooden bed frame. My brother in law was having back problems and they wanted something that was solid and that would match the nightstands I had made for them as their wedding gift several years ago. She showed me some pictures of ones that she liked in some magazines, and then she listed some basic dimensions of their mattress and how much clearance she wanted below the bed frame. The pictures show the end result. I used some old Walnut. Interesting bit of info on the wood…as I was working with it I kept finding buckshot and lead bullets in it. It was from a tree out of my grandfather’s woods, so it was kind of a cool story to tell my sister and it gave the bed a lot of character.

Love the Grain, looks awesome.

Just about to finalise the design of my first bed for my daughter, I would be interested to know how you plan to fastnen the slats to the sides of the bed.

Screws (in slots)? or loose fit?

Any advice gratefully recieved.
