Another item for the daughter’s school fundraiser silent auction. To go in a basket with some other items my wife is gathering.

I haven’t done a lot of cutting boards and usually don’t go for fancy layouts, so this was kind of fun.

I just used strips of scrap I had laying around, Birch (I think), Walnut, Padauk and Cherry. The strips were a little off thickness, for the outside, but I ended up with two thicker strips of contrasting color, so I just glued it up. Though the outside doesn’t have perfect alignment, the fact that the mis-alignment is symmetric across the board makes it look ok to me.

Thanks for looking,
Mike

Not sure what alignment your referencing, don’t care – looks pretty darn nice to me

I really like the pattern. I too keep all my nicer wood scraps for cutting boards. They provide the closest thing to immediate gratification that you likely to get when working with wood. I also don’t see your alignment concerns, but I think you a like a lot of woodworkers; you are your own worst critic. Chalk this board up in the win column, as I think someone is going to be really pleased they were the top bidder!

Have your say...
