Wanted to do something different for xmas this year. Did the pen thing last year. Here’s a couple yo-yos I made and gave this year. I learned how to do it from a DVD I got at the Woodworking show last year. These were a little more challenging that I thought they would be.

Nice work. Is that walnut and sycamore? Nice to see something a little new. Are the two sides glued to the dowel in the middle or are they all one piece? Are there official dimensions you have to go by or can you just make a yo-yo any size you want?

Best,

They look great! How well do they work?

Thanks for the comments! They are both turned from single pieces, no dowels or anything. They are both myrtle from Oregon. I wanted to make one light and one dark out of different woods but the walnut I bought split through the grain as I was turning it. So I cheated and just applied a little stain to the darker one. As far as how they work, well, I have no yo yo skill other than to throw them down and bring them back up. They spin true and balanced. I gave them to my brother in law as he collects yo yos and he seemed to enjoy them. It was something different and fun to make.

Have your say...
