This is the first project made with my “new” 1950s craftsman table saw. It is also my first real wood working project since high school shop in 1994. It was for my sister-in-law for a Christmas present. She has 4 boys and she wanted something better for storage of coats, book bags, and hats.

I used pre-glued pine panels from Lowes. Their quality left allot to be desired. Unfortunately I yet have no way to make my own. All connections are made using dados. I don’t have a stacked dado yet, so the joints weren’t as tight as I would like. I also find I hate pine, as it dents to easy.

My sister-in-law said she wanted it painted white, and she wanted worn to give it that antique look. I decided to paint it blue first and then white. You cant see it in the picture, but I sanded the edges to bring out the blue. It was cute watching her boys decorate their cubbies after I hung it on the wall.

Cool shelf. The trick will be to get them to use it.
