Here it is, my first project posting to lumberjocks. I found the site a few months ago and have really enjoyed looking at everyone’s projects and reading the postings.
I am coming towards the end of a year+ renovation to our house, which included a the transformation of our front porch and living room into a dining room and foyer. lots of walls got re-arranged, and I have been doing all the work myself.
What is pictured is our new dining room floor, which I just finished a few weeks ago. It is solid maple with a mahogany border. The maple was ordered from the lumberyard, but I ended up making the border pieces out of rough sawn mahogany boards.
This was my first project that involved major surfacing and milling, so I finally got to put my jointer, planer, tablesaw, and router table to the test! once I had the stock flat and square, I ripped 1” wide pieces, and then ran them thru the router table to create the tongues and grooves to match what came with the maple flooring.
So, while it not a piece of furniture, this project marked my first departure from S4S lumber from the home center.
