Day of the Dead Coffee Table for a friend
Main structure built out of laminated pine with regular Spruce 2×8 and 2×10’s glued to the back of each coffin face to allow for a deeper cut for the alcoves.
The alcoves and the top design were all cut with an X-carve CNC router, the top skull was then painstakingly taped off and spray painted for each color (seemed like the easiest way to get the edges of each cut painted as well….my hands aren’t steady enough to use a brush)
Paint markers were used for the alcove details, the idea being that they will showcase other Day of The Dead items as she collects them over time.
Foot of the coffin has a tiny Yorkie sized hole to allow for her dog to get inside and one of the alcoves at the head is cut entirely through so he can spy out (or we can look in)
Not shown is the nice glass top that the very confused glass shop custom cut and beveled for me.
