This is my first posted project. Each piece was built using reclaimed walnut (from an old barn in Missouri) and a welded, metal base. The surface boards were planed to a uniform thickness and clamped/glued. The apron boards were only planed on the back side, to make a flat surface to secure to the base. The end user wanted a smooth top surface but for everything else to remain rustic.

The base was made out of angled steel, cut and welded to create a strong supporting structure. If I had to do it again, I would make the angles slightly larger for visual effect.

Thank you. I was equally surprised that whole barns were made of walnut. I suppose they just used the locally grown trees which happens to be walnut in Missouri. I enjoyed using reclaimed wood but I did find that no matter how much time I spent searching for nails with a magnet, my planer still seemed to find some that I didn’t. Oh well – I just had to factor a new set of knives into the price for the end user.
