I found this project with plans in Wood magazine November 2009 and made five for my wife, two daughters and two daughters-in law for Christmas presents. The article (fortunately) specifies the glass bud vase as to manufacturer and size. I Googled this info and found that Crate & Barrel sells the exact vase for about $1.25 each. The wood is mahogany. They wer all very surprised and very pleased !!

Just go to prove….............. projects don’t have to be large or complex to be beautiful. Great job and I’m sure every woman out there would love to receive one!

Very nice!

I’d like to do this project, but my drill press is too short to drill the hole…...

DEAN -

“I’d like to do this project, but my drill press is too short to drill the hole”......

I had the same problem, so I drilled half way onone end, flipped it over and drilled thepther half.
Just be sure you get the ecact center on each end; I draw a line from opposing corners and where they intersect is center. Any leftover ridges or humps can be easily dealt with (chisel, foam sanding blocks, etc.)once you have cut the pieces apart

I tried to make one of these too, and I didn’t think they turned out anywhere near as well as yours did. Nice job! I only made two because I didn’t like how mine looked :)

Nice, I saw this article as well & my wife wants one. Is the dark line on the bottom the colored marker they make referance to in the article? Nice Job

KEN you asked: “Nice, I saw this article as well & my wife wants one. Is the dark line on the bottom the colored marker they make referance to in the article?”
Yees, it is; used a black Marks a Lot before finishing.Creates the illusion that only the corners touch the surface it is sitting on. Thanks for the kudo !
